Berceni Arena renamed in honor of hockey legend Doru Tureanu
The Berceni Arena ice rink in Bucharest's Sector 4 has been officially renamed the ‘Doru Tureanu’ Ice Rink. The renaming ceremony took place on September 19, organized by the National Agency for Sport in collaboration with the Sector 4 City Hall.
Doru Tureanu, who passed away in 2014, is regarded as one of the greatest players in the history of Romanian ice hockey. During his career, he played 17 years for Dinamo Bucharest, winning six national titles, and represented Romania in 17 World Championships. He also competed in the 1976 Innsbruck and 1980 Lake Placid Winter Olympics.
Tureanu was inducted into the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) Hall of Fame in 2011, becoming only the second Romanian to receive this honor. The arena, which has a capacity of 800 seats, serves as the only dedicated ice sports facility in the capital and hosts hockey, figure skating, and youth programs.
