Berentzen in takeover talks with US spirits giant Sazerac

The German beverage manufacturer Berentzen, based in Haselünne, is in negotiations with the US-based Sazerac Company regarding a voluntary public takeover bid for all outstanding shares. Berentzen, known for brands such as Apfelkorn, Puschkin Vodka, Doornkaat, and Bommerlunder, as well as non-alcoholic brands like Mio Mio and Sinalco, has recently faced economic challenges.

According to financial reports, Berentzen's revenue fell by approximately 11 percent to 71 million euros in the first half of 2026, while operating profit before interest and taxes dropped by more than 80 percent to roughly 600,000 euros. The company's market value was recently estimated at around 35 million euros. The potential acquisition follows Sazerac's recent purchase of the British spirits manufacturer Au Vodka for approximately 350 million euros.
