Bergamo bar renovation uncovers bone remains in stone wall

During renovation work at the Crystal Bar in the Borgo Santa Caterina district of Bergamo, workers discovered bone remains and a skull embedded within an old stone wall. The discovery occurred on Monday, August 24, as laborers were removing newer structures to reveal the original masonry.

Prosecutor Emanuele Marchisio has placed the establishment under criminal seizure to preserve the site for investigation. Authorities, including the State Police and forensic specialists, are working to determine if the remains are human and to establish their age. Preliminary assessments suggest the remains may date back several decades, potentially to the period between the two World Wars.

Anthropologists from the University of Milan have been called in to assist with the analysis. Once the nature of the remains is confirmed, investigators will attempt to identify the individual, provided the state of preservation allows for such forensic work.
