Italy: Police arrest man for attempted kidnapping in Rome

Police in Rome have arrested a 47-year-old man of Nigerian origin for the attempted aggravated kidnapping of a child in the Tor Sapienza area. The incident occurred when the man tried to forcibly take a child who was walking with their aunt. The aunt managed to prevent the abduction, and the child's father later identified the suspect in the street, leading to a pursuit involving a public bus before police intercepted the man.

In a separate legal development in Bergamo, a 47-year-old Romanian man, Emil Mortu, has been acquitted of charges related to the attempted kidnapping of an 18-month-old girl at an Esselunga supermarket in February. The court ruled that Mortu was not criminally responsible due to a total lack of mental capacity caused by schizophrenia. While acquitted, the court ordered him to undergo a security measure involving a minimum of two years in a specialized psychiatric residence (Rems) in Castiglione delle Stiviere.
