Bergamo officials demand urgent meeting over railway construction delays
The Municipality and Province of Bergamo have requested an urgent meeting to address significant delays and uncertainties regarding major railway construction projects in the region. The request, signed by Provincial President Gianfranco Gafforelli and Mayor Elena Carnevali, seeks to coordinate actions with national and regional authorities to unblock works and establish reliable timelines.
The meeting is scheduled for October 2 in Bergamo. The concerns follow communications from Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (Rfi) indicating slow progress on key projects, such as the Bergamo-Ponte San Pietro connection and the line linking the railway station to Orio al Serio Airport. Current delays make the original goal of completing works by 2027 appear unlikely.
Specific infrastructure setbacks include the postponement of the second arch opening for the via San Bernardino bridge to the Christmas holidays, and the delay of the via dei Caniana bridge until mid-January 2027. Rfi has also reported contractual difficulties, including a request for contract termination due to execution issues.
