Bergamo players reach 28 debuts for Italian national team
The number of footballers from Bergamo to represent the Italian national team has reached 28 following the recent debuts of Matteo Ruggeri, Issa Doumbia, and Mohamed Ali Zoma.
Matteo Ruggeri, formerly of Atalanta and currently playing for Aston Villa, earned a starting position against Turkey in the Nations League. This marks the first time a player from the Bergamo province has started a match for Italy since Roberto Gagliardini played against Estonia in November 2020.
While the recent debutants include talent from the region, Ruggeri, Doumbia, and Zoma are currently playing their club football outside of Italy's Serie A.
