Bergamo transit authority moves e‑Brt poles after citizen complaints

The public transport operator ATB announced that four street‑level poles installed along the new e‑Brt electric bus rapid‑transit corridor in Bergamo will be relocated by 29 July, ahead of the system’s launch. The poles, originally positioned on sidewalks to accommodate underground utilities, have drawn criticism for obstructing wheelchair users, stroller‑pushers and other pedestrians. ATB said the posts will be re‑anchored to existing walls or other structures, while one pole will remain in place with a setback of the surrounding fence to preserve clearance. The adjustments also involve moving a pedestrian‑call button and ensuring that the surveillance cameras supporting the e‑Brt lane‑enforcement system continue to operate.

Local officials, including the provincial secretary of Sinistra Italiana, have called for the issues to be addressed promptly, arguing that the ecological transition must be “attentive to people.” ATB’s response aims to improve sidewalk accessibility before the electric bus service begins.
