Bergarè 2026 event highlights bergamot industry in Reggio Calabria

The fifth edition of Bergarè 2026, organized by the Reggio Calabria Chamber of Commerce, has concluded with record attendance. The event positioned Reggio Calabria as an international hub for the bergamot industry, focusing on the synergy between scientific research, institutional support, and commercial innovation.

A central component of the event was the specialist conference, “Il bergamotto e gli agrumi tra innovazione, ricerca e sostenibilità,” held at the Aragonese Castle. This session, organized by the SSEA in collaboration with the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria, addressed agronomic strategies for protecting bergamot crops amidst climate change and explored new irrigation and cultivation technologies.

Beyond scientific discourse, the event featured culinary and mixology showcases. Gastronomy expert Luca Pappagallo led educational workshops for local hospitality students, while a mixology contest highlighted the ingredient's versatility in global beverage trends. The event emphasized the bergamot's role as a vital economic, cultural, and touristic driver for the region.
