Bergen officials refuse to fund new classrooms for IKC De Rode Schouw

The Bergen municipal college has stated it will not provide financial support for new classrooms at IKC De Rode Schouw in Halsteren to address a local shortage. Currently, students are being forced to attend lessons in the school's assembly hall due to a lack of available space.

The shortage reportedly stems from the educational institution ABBO leasing classroom space to its own childcare services. While the VVD party has proposed a motion to investigate available space in neighboring school complexes or provide temporary housing, Alderman Sander Siebelink maintains that ABBO must resolve the issue itself.

Local political representatives have expressed differing views. The VVD argues that current municipal housing plans should better support the integration of childcare and education, while members of the CDA and D66 have questioned whether the municipality is responsible for providing emergency classrooms or if the burden lies solely with the school boards.
