Bergkamen council rejects kindergarten fees and approves €60 OGS meals

In July 2026 the city council of Bergkamen voted on two separate preschool funding measures. A proposal to reintroduce kindergarten fees starting in the summer of 2027 was rejected by a majority of council members, ending plans for a historic fee reinstatement.

At the same meeting the council approved a monthly €60 allowance for meals in the town's Open‑Day‑School (OGS) program, to take effect from August 2027. The decision on the meal allowance was not unanimous, but it passed with a majority, setting the new cost for primary‑school children’s lunchtime provision.

Both decisions shape local early‑education financing in Bergkamen and reflect the council’s stance on keeping preschool access affordable while covering additional service costs.
