Bergkönigin steam locomotive to take final runs through Harz

The historical steam locomotive 95 027, widely known as the ‘Bergkönigin’ (Mountain Queen), is scheduled for its final runs through the Harz region on October 17 and 18, 2026. The locomotive, which was built in 1923 by Hanomag, must undergo a major overhaul as its current inspection periods expire at the end of October.

The upcoming maintenance will require a complete disassembly of the machine to measure, inspect, and document all components. While previous repairs to the boiler may reduce the cost of the chassis inspection, such a measure would result in an operating permit lasting only three years instead of the standard eight.

The Arbeitsgemeinschaft Rübelandbahn is organizing special farewell trips starting from Blankenburg. Due to high demand, many afternoon sessions are already sold out, though some morning slots remain available. The future return of the locomotive to service remains uncertain, with a potential completion of repairs estimated as early as March 2027.
