Bergneustadt seeks new site for Muslim burial ground

The city of Bergneustadt is searching for a new location to establish a Muslim burial ground after soil investigations revealed the originally planned site is unsuitable. According to Andreas Wagner, head of the construction, planning, and environment department, the intended area on Ennestraße contains massive rock formations just 60 centimeters below the surface.

Developing the site would require significant expenditure for terracing, filling, and drainage. Officials noted that such extensive modifications might also conflict with religious requirements regarding undisturbed earth. Mayor Matthias Thul cautioned against increasing cemetery fees for all users to cover these specific costs, prompting the search for a more viable alternative.
