Bergondo councilor faces trial over alleged misappropriation of funds

Pilar Barja, a local government councilor in Bergondo, is facing a potential trial following a ruling by the Audiencia Provincial. The court dismissed her appeal against an order that concludes the initial investigation and moves the case toward an oral trial.

The case stems from her previous role as treasurer for the Cruz do Sar school parents' association (ANPA) between December 2017 and May 2023. Prosecutors and the association have alleged misappropriation of funds and falsification of commercial documents.

Judicial findings suggest that Barja may have diverted approximately 6,893 euros for personal use by using an association credit card for private purchases and signing contracts in her own name and that of the association's president. The court noted there are 'rational indications of criminality' regarding these actions.
