Berkeley County Sheriff Launches Senior Fraud Prevention Tour

The Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office in South Carolina has begun a free Senior Fraud Prevention Tour aimed at helping older adults, caregivers and the wider community recognize and report common scams. Sheriff Duane Lewis said the goal is to “empower our community with the knowledge they need to stay one step ahead of scammers.” The series of presentations runs at several venues, including the Moncks Corner Library (July 30), Daniel Island Library (Aug 4), Sangaree Library (Aug 18), Macedonia Christian Church in Bonneau (Aug 25) and Del Webb Point Hope in Charleston (Sept 24). Topics covered include phone and text‑message scams, grandparent and AI voice‑cloning fraud, identity‑theft prevention, online safety and general financial‑fraud awareness. All sessions are free and open to the public, with no registration required. In addition, the sheriff’s office released episode five of its “Berkeley Buzz” podcast, highlighting a ride‑along with Sgt. Stacy Harris and community‑partner investigations.
