Berkeley family home undergoes colorful midcentury-inspired remodel

A family of five in Berkeley, California, has completed a remodel of their 1,343-square-foot, three-bedroom residence, intentionally rejecting the ‘flipper gray’ aesthetic in favor of a warm, colorful environment.

Designed by Jihan Spearman of the San Francisco-based studio Spearman Spaces, the project utilized midcentury influences to incorporate layers of color and texture. The redesign focused on optimizing the layout to increase storage and improve movement between rooms. The living area features bold tones, multicolored furniture, and large windows designed to connect the interior with geometric architectural elements outside.
