Berkshire Hathaway Commits $10 B to Alphabet’s AI Push

Berkshire Hathaway, led by Greg Abel, has agreed to purchase $10 billion of Alphabet Inc. stock in a private placement – $5 billion in Class A shares and $5 billion in Class C shares. The deal marks one of Berkshire’s largest single investments in a pure‑play technology company and signals a strategic shift for the conglomerate, which has traditionally favored traditional value stocks. The investment coincides with Alphabet’s disclosed plan to raise about $80 billion to expand its artificial‑intelligence infrastructure, including data centers, custom silicon and high‑performance networking. Analysts view the Berkshire stake as a vote of confidence in the long‑term growth of AI compute resources and an indication that large, conservative investors are moving into the sector. The transaction provides Alphabet with immediate capital for its AI ambitions while giving Berkshire a foothold in a high‑growth market as the firm deploys its $300 billion-plus cash reserves.

The move has been welcomed by markets, with Alphabet shares edging higher on the news, and it highlights the growing convergence of traditional finance and frontier technology investment as the AI arms race intensifies among hyperscalers.
