Berkshire Hathaway holds indirect $700 million stake in SpaceX
Berkshire Hathaway holds an indirect economic interest in SpaceX valued at approximately $700 million. This exposure is a mathematical result of Berkshire’s significant position in Alphabet, Google’s parent company.
As of mid-2026, Berkshire owns roughly 0.9% of Alphabet, which in turn holds approximately 4% of SpaceX. This “look-through” exposure equates to about 0.04% of SpaceX. The value of this indirect stake was crystallized following SpaceX’s initial public offering on June 12, 2026.
While Warren Buffett has historically avoided initial public offerings (IPOs) due to concerns over inflated valuations and incentive structures, this investment was acquired entirely through the purchase of Alphabet shares, rather than a direct participation in the SpaceX IPO.
