Berkshire Hathaway boosts Alphabet stake to $37.8 billion

Berkshire Hathaway has significantly increased its stake in Alphabet, boosting its holding by 83% during the second quarter to approximately 106 million shares. This investment, valued at roughly $37.8 billion, makes Alphabet the third-largest holding in Berkshire's portfolio, following Apple and American Express.

The move is viewed as a major bet on artificial intelligence infrastructure. Alphabet has indicated that funds from recent capital raises, including a $10 billion private placement, will be used to scale AI infrastructure and global computing capacity.

Alphabet's recent financial performance shows strong momentum, with second-quarter revenue rising 24% to $119.8 billion. The company's Cloud segment experienced particularly rapid growth, with revenue increasing 82% year-over-year to $24.77 billion. Despite the heavy capital expenditures required for AI development, which have led to significant cash outflows, analysts remain focused on the company's ability to leverage its technological strength for long-term growth.
