Berkshire Hathaway invests $16.8 bn in Alphabet and homebuilder while Apple and AmEx dominate portfolio

Berkshire Hathaway’s holdings remain heavily weighted toward two premium brands: Apple accounts for about 21.4% of the conglomerate’s assets and American Express about 14.5%, together representing roughly 36% of the portfolio.

New CEO Greg Abel has directed $16.8 bn of Berkshire’s cash into two high‑profile deals. The firm agreed to buy $10 bn of Alphabet stock through a private placement, positioning the technology giant among Berkshire’s top five equity holdings. In parallel, Berkshire completed a $6.8 bn acquisition of homebuilder Taylor Morrison, extending its presence in the U.S. housing market across 12 states. Berkshire’s cash balance stood at $380.2 bn at the end of March, with a commitment to retain a $30 bn safety cushion.
