Berkshire Hathaway invests $30 billion in Alphabet after Warren Buffett’s initiative
Warren Buffett, who stepped down as CEO of Berkshire Hathaway at the end of 2025 but remains chair of the board, told CNBC that he personally initiated the conglomerate’s latest investment in Alphabet, the parent of Google, YouTube and Google Cloud. The stake, now worth around $30 billion, includes direct stock purchases and a $10 billion private‑placement made in June 2026, making Alphabet one of Berkshire’s largest holdings.
Greg Abel, who took over as CEO on 1 January 2026, is expected to continue Buffett’s investment philosophy. While Berkshire also holds major positions in Apple, Coca‑Cola and American Express, the new Alphabet investment reflects a corrective move after earlier missed opportunities in Google’s growth and its expanding AI infrastructure.
Analysts note that the infusion underscores Berkshire’s confidence in Alphabet’s revenue growth from search advertising and its broader AI ambitions, marking a significant capital allocation decision by the legendary investor even after his formal retirement.
