Berkshire Hathaway makes Alphabet its third-largest holding under Greg Abel
Berkshire Hathaway, newly led by Greg Abel after Warren Buffett stepped down as CEO on Dec. 31, 2025, has substantially increased its stake in Alphabet. Form 13F filings show the conglomerate more than tripled its holding of Alphabet’s Class A shares and opened a new position in Class C shares, and it agreed to purchase $10 billion of Alphabet stock in a private placement linked to the company’s $84.75 billion equity offering. This move pushed Alphabet to become Berkshire’s No. 3 holding, overtaking the decades‑long position in Coca‑Cola.
Buffett himself has not commented on the upcoming SpaceX IPO, but he previously warned against IPOs, saying, “To say that the best place in the world to put my money is where all the selling incentives are there… is the single best thing to buy in a single day?” His skepticism about high‑growth, unprofitable tech listings frames the broader debate on whether Berkshire might consider investing in future offerings like SpaceX.
