Berkshire Hathaway reports nearly doubled Q2 net profit

Berkshire Hathaway reported a significant increase in net profit for the second quarter of 2026, with attributable net income nearly doubling to $25.67 billion from $12.37 billion in the previous year. Total revenue also rose from $92.52 billion to $101.81 billion.

Despite the strong overall performance, the company's insurance core faced challenges. The underwriting result for insurance segments declined from $1.99 billion to $1.73 billion after taxes. This decline was driven by higher loss costs at GEICO and a decrease in insurance capital returns. CEO Greg Abel had previously warned of declining price discipline within the insurance market.

Other business segments showed growth, with BNSF reporting a 6.3 percent increase in net profit and Berkshire Hathaway Energy seeing a 26.9 percent rise. The company's insurance float grew slightly to approximately $177.5 billion as of June 30.
