Berkshire Hathaway shares reach all-time highs

Berkshire Hathaway’s Class A and Class B shares closed at record highs on October 22, surpassing previous peaks set in May 2025. Class A shares finished at $820,500, while Class B shares closed at $546.97.

The stock recovery follows a period of volatility triggered by Warren Buffett’s May 2025 announcement that he would step down as CEO. Greg Abel officially succeeded Buffett as CEO on January 1, 2026, following a unanimous board vote.

Market analysts suggest the rebound is driven by investors seeking refuge from a selloff in heavily valued artificial intelligence and technology stocks. Berkshire’s diversified business model and substantial cash reserves—which totaled $359.2 billion as of June 30—position it as an alternative for those looking to reduce direct exposure to the AI investment boom. The recent performance has narrowed the company’s year-to-date performance gap with the S&P 500 to less than four percentage points.
