Berkshire Hathaway shifts investment focus under Greg Abel
As Berkshire Hathaway enters a new leadership chapter following Warren Buffett’s retirement, successor Greg Abel is overseeing shifts in the conglomerate’s investment portfolio. While Buffett historically avoided unpredictable technology sectors, the firm is increasingly holding positions in companies positioned to benefit from artificial intelligence (AI) adoption.
Three specific companies—Apple, Alphabet, and Bending Spoons—account for approximately $114.4 billion, or 31.4%, of Berkshire’s estimated $364 billion investment portfolio. Notably, none of these are considered pure-play AI businesses, but rather established models that may gain value as AI technology accelerates.
Regarding Apple, Berkshire has stabilized its position after significant selling between 2024 and 2025. The firm’s second-quarter 13F filing indicated ownership of 227.9 million Apple shares, valued at approximately $79.1 billion. Meanwhile, market analysts have noted that high valuations in the S&P 500, driven largely by the AI boom, have prompted cautionary signals from Buffett regarding historical market cycles and inflation.
