Berlin benefit concert supports LGBTQIA+ community after CSD attack

A benefit concert titled ‘Fresse auf für queere Freiheit’ was held at Berlin’s Columbiahalle to show solidarity with the LGBTQIA+ community following an Islamist attack on the Berlin CSD on July 25. The attack, involving a vehicle driven into a crowd, resulted in the death of a 65-year-old woman and injuries to 31 others.

Organized by Baran Kok, the sold-out event featured 16 artists across various genres, including Herbert Grönemeyer, Ikkimel, Badmomzjay, Juju, and OG Lu. During his performance, Grönemeyer called for courage and a collective stance against hatred. Other performers, such as drag queen Barbie Breakout and rapper Badmomzjay, expressed anger regarding political disrespect and the loss of lives due to hate.

The evening included speeches from Berlin queer counseling services and CSD organizers from rural East Germany, focusing on the need for community resilience and political advocacy.
