Berlin Brandenburg Airport conducts large-scale emergency drill

Berlin Brandenburg Airport (BER) conducted a large-scale emergency exercise on October 14, 2026, to test responses to complex security threats. The five-hour drill involved approximately 850 participants, including 350 emergency responders from various police departments, fire services, and medical units, alongside 300 actors.

The simulated scenario involved an escalating crisis surrounding a fictional state visit, featuring demonstrations, blockades, fires, and violent attempts to breach secure aviation areas. The exercise aimed to evaluate inter-agency leadership, communication networks, and the protection of critical aviation infrastructure during simultaneous incidents.

Regular passenger and flight operations at BER remained unaffected during the drill. Such exercises are mandated by International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) and European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) guidelines every two years. Authorities will analyze the results to refine existing crisis and emergency plans.
