Berlin-Brandenburg media council approves regional DAB+ radio slots for 2028
The media council of the Medienanstalt Berlin‑Brandenburg (mabb) has allocated DAB+ frequencies to four private broadcasters – BB Radio, 94 3 rs2, Berliner Rundfunk 91.4 and Schlager Radio – to create five regional radio windows in Brandenburg starting in 2028. Listeners will receive localized news, weather and traffic reports tailored to their specific area.
Martin Gorholt, chair of the mabb media council, said, “Mehr Regionalität geht nicht!” – more regionalisation cannot be better. The council also plans a funding programme to further promote region‑specific content on DAB+. Technically, the DAB+ structure will be unified across public, private and non‑commercial stations, sharing the same transmission facilities and reserving capacity for the open‑channel service ALEX Berlin.
The re‑allocation aims to deliver a fully regionalised yet nationwide quality of radio service across Berlin and Brandenburg.
