Berlin Bundeswehr Memorial March Disrupts Traffic Across City
On Thursday, a final eight‑hour segment of the annual Bundeswehr memorial march travelled from the Kladow district in western Berlin to the Reichstag building. The procession, organized by the Verband der Reservisten in cooperation with the Bundeswehr, involved 120 participants covering a 120‑kilometre route that passed along Heerstraße, Messedamm and the Straße des 17. Juni before reaching the Bendlerblock memorial in the Tiergarten. Police warned that the march could not be overtaken by vehicles, leading to significant traffic delays and road closures from 08:00 to 16:00.
The ceremony commemorates the more than 3,400 Bundeswehr members killed in service since 1955. The event, first launched in 2018, has become an annual reminder of fallen soldiers and includes a gathering with relatives at the Bundeswehr memorial after the march concludes.
