Berlin CDU faces backlash over campaign video and plunging poll support

The CDU Berlin temporarily took down a campaign video after criticism that a segment linked antisemitism to footage of the Holocaust memorial and Palestinian flags. The video was later restored online without altering the passages about antisemitism.

A BerlinTrend poll released ahead of the September 20 state election shows the CDU’s support falling to 17%, a drop of 11 percentage points from the 2023 repeat election. The Left now leads at 20%, with the Greens at 19% and the AfD at 18%. Analysts cite the video controversy, the January power‑outage “Tennisgate”, and perceived pro‑driver lobbying as factors eroding voter confidence in Mayor Kai Wegner and his party.
