Berlin Christopher Street Day vehicle attack kills one, injures dozens

On Saturday evening a white van drove into the crowd gathered for the Christopher Street Day parade in Berlin’s Tiergarten, near the Brandenburg Gate and Potsdamer Platz. One woman was killed and at least 29 people were injured, with several in critical condition.

German police deployed special units and helicopters, secured the area and ordered an evacuation. The attacker fled to a garden plot in the Spandau district, where he was confronted by police and shot dead after a brief exchange of fire. Officials, including Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Berlin’s Interior Senator Iris Spranger, praised the rapid response of security forces. Police spokesperson Florian Nath confirmed the casualty figures and the ongoing treatment of the wounded.
