Berlin S‑Bahn faces extensive service closures during summer holidays

During the summer vacation period, Berlin’s S‑Bahn network will undergo large‑scale construction, leading to multiple line closures and altered routes. The longest shutdown, from 10 July to 17 August, affects the stretch between Bornholmer Straße and Schönholz, with the S1 operating on a modified route and a barrier‑free replacement bus running via Wollank‑Straße and Stern‑Straße. On the Bernau line, services between Karow and Bernau are suspended from 10 July to 21 July, after which the section between Buch and Bernau is closed from 21 July to 24 July; replacement buses operate on both segments.

The Ringbahn experiences a closure between Hermannstraße and Tempelhof from 3 August to 10 August, limiting S41, S42, S46 and S47 to their respective termini and providing barrier‑free buses on the affected segment. A larger interruption from 18 August to 31 August disables S‑Bahn trains between Schöneweide, Baumschulenweg and Treptower Park/Neukölln, impacting lines S3, S8, S9, S46, S47, S75 and S85; buses replace services on the affected sections. The works aim to install a new electronic signal centre in Schöneweide, replacing older local control points and completing the network’s remote‑operation capability.
