Berlin CSD van attack kills one, injures 29 FAST-MOVING
On the night of 26 July 2026 a white van drove into the crowd gathering in Berlin’s Tiergarten during the Christopher Street Day (CSD) celebrations. The vehicle struck dozens of people before crashing into a tree. One woman died at the scene and 29 others were injured, many with serious wounds.
Police identified the driver as 21‑year‑old Abdul B., who had become radicalised and was allegedly seeking to join the Islamic State. After the crash he exited the vehicle, approached officers with a knife and was shot dead by the SEK unit. Berlin fire‑brigade and medical teams provided emergency care and later set up a counselling tent for witnesses.
The attack prompted condemnation from German politicians across parties, who described it as an assault on a free and open society. The investigation into motives and possible additional assailants continues.
