Berlin CSD van attack kills one, injures 16; suspect Abdul B. evades police

On the night of 25 July 2026, a white van driven into the crowd in Berlin’s Tiergarten park during the Christopher Street Day (CSD) Pride parade. The vehicle struck a large gathering of participants at around 22:00, killing a woman and wounding at least 16 people, with several sustaining life‑threatening injuries; some witnesses reported stab wounds. Police quickly identified a 21‑year‑old male suspect, Abdul B., described as slim, about 1.90 m tall, with black hair, wearing a black hoodie and white trousers. He is known to authorities from the Islamist milieu and was released from a juvenile detention centre in May 2026. After the crash he fled the scene. Police launched a citywide manhunt, employing helicopters, drones with thermal imaging, and raiding a Schöneberg apartment, but have not yet captured him. Berlin’s Governing Mayor Kai Wegner and federal leaders condemned the incident as an attack on a free and open society. The motive remains under investigation, and authorities are also probing a possible second phase involving stabbing weapons.
