Berlin CSD attack: Victim support shifts to long-term care

Four weeks after the Islamist terrorist attack on the Berlin CSD in Tiergarten, where a 21-year-old attacker used a van to strike pedestrians, victim support efforts are transitioning from acute care to long-term assistance. Roland Weber, the Federal Victim Commissioner, stated that most injured individuals have been discharged from hospitals and are now receiving support for rehabilitation and personalized care.

In Bremen, a vigil was held at the Marktplatz to honor those killed and show solidarity with the queer community. Participants expressed a mix of grief and anger, highlighting concerns that political rhetoric and anti-queer sentiment contribute to a climate where such violence can occur. Speakers emphasized that true freedom is not realized if members of the community must fear being themselves due to the risk of violence.
