Berlin election officials announce vote recounts in Steglitz-Zehlendorf

Following the recent Berlin Abgeordnetenhaus election, officials in the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district have announced a public recount of certain votes. The recount includes approximately 24,000 second votes in the Lichterfelde constituency 4, where the CDU previously held a significant lead. Additionally, specific batches of valid second votes will be recounted at the Theodor-Wenzel-Haus in Zehlendorf and all second votes cast for Die Linke at the Dunant-Grundschule polling station in Steglitz.

The recount follows the preliminary election results, which saw Die Linke emerge as the strongest force in Berlin with 25.7 percent of the second votes, more than doubling its previous share. The CDU placed second with 18.8 percent. In the Pankow district, specific polling station data showed varied results, including a notable 34.3 percent vote for the AfD at the Khadija Mosque polling station, though this represented only 110 voters out of 331 total votes cast at that location.

Under German law, recounts are conducted when there are indications of potential errors during the counting or transmission of results. While individual recounts are not uncommon, the district has not provided specific reasons for this particular measure.
