Berlin CSD Attack Triggers New Memorial and Heightened Pride Security Across Europe

On 25 July 2026 a van driven by an Islamist attacker rammed a crowd at Berlin’s Christopher Street Day (CSD) event, killing one woman and injuring 31 others. The perpetrator was shot dead a day later. In response, Berlin’s Mitte district installed a permanent memorial at the site in Tiergarten: a protected French maple tree surrounded by a metal grate and a rainbow‑coloured bench, both intended for quiet remembrance and solidarity with the queer community.

European Pride celebrations have since reinforced security. Prague Pride expects about 50 000 participants and has deployed several hundred police officers, a helicopter, water stations and a minute of silence to honour the Berlin victims. Copenhagen Pride organisers vow higher visibility and safety measures, while Berlin’s Queer Parkfest proceeds with additional guards, bag checks and traffic controls. The coordinated response underscores the region’s commitment to protect LGBTQ+ events after the Berlin tragedy.
