Bundesverfassungsgericht accepts Deutsche Umwelthilfe constitutional complaint

The German Federal Constitutional Court has accepted a constitutional complaint filed by Deutsche Umwelthilfe (DUH) regarding a decision by the Atom Investigation Committee. The committee had previously demanded the release of all communications from DUH employees related to energy supply, including internal messages.

DUH and its employees, including Managing Director Sascha Müller-Kraenner, argue that this demand violates the fundamental right to informational self-determination. The court has requested statements from the Federal Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of the Interior, the Federal Chancellery, the Federal Prosecutor General, and the German Bundestag by November 3, 2026.
