Berlin launches campaign ahead of September 20 elections

The Berlin House of Representatives has launched a non-partisan campaign titled ‘Wähl dir dein Berlin’ (Vote for your Berlin) to encourage high voter turnout for the upcoming elections on September 20. The campaign, costing approximately 950,000 euros, utilizes posters, digital screens, social media, and community runs to engage citizens across all social strata.

President of the Berlin House of Representatives, Cornelia Seibeld, emphasized that democracy relies on high participation to ensure citizens can shape the future of the parliament and district governments. A major focus of the campaign is reaching first-time voters, as 16- and 17-year-olds are eligible to vote for the state parliament for the first time following a constitutional change.

Regarding election logistics, the period for postal voting has commenced. To vote in the House of Representatives election, individuals must hold German citizenship, be at least 16 years old, and have resided in Berlin for at least three months. For the simultaneous district assembly elections, EU citizens are also eligible to vote. Approximately 50,000 young people are expected to cast ballots for the first time in the state election.
