Berlin launches road safety campaign for school start
The Landesverkehrswacht Berlin has launched a city-wide safety campaign to coincide with the start of the new school year. As approximately 36,000 first-graders begin their schooling this week, the organization is using banners at nearly 400 public primary schools, as well as advertisements on buses and e-scooters, to urge motorists to exercise extra caution.
Officials, including Governing Mayor Kai Wegner and various senators, are supporting the initiative, emphasizing the need for increased consideration and cooperation in road traffic. The campaign highlights that young children may struggle to accurately judge distances and speeds. To assist with safety, more than 1,300 volunteer student guides are active in Berlin to help children cross streets safely.
