Berlin leads Germany in average car loan amounts
According to the 2026 Auto Kredit-Atlas by comparison portal Verivox, which analyzed approximately 100,000 car loans, Berlin has the highest average car loan amount in Germany. Despite having a lower demand for loans compared to other regions, Berliners borrow an average of 23,323 euros per vehicle.
Other regions with high average loan amounts include Hamburg (22,977 euros), Baden-Württemberg (22,866 euros), Hessen (22,676 euros), and Bavaria (22,440 euros). The national average for car loans in Germany stands at 21,886 euros. In contrast, regions such as Saarland and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern report significantly lower average loan amounts, both hovering around 20,500 to 20,700 euros.
