Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner warns against city disparagement

Berlin Governing Mayor Kai Wegner (CDU) has issued a warning against ‘Berlin-bashing’ following his final speech in the state parliament. Wegner emphasized that while the city faces various challenges and problems, political discourse should focus on the city’s opportunities, diversity, and international character rather than disparaging it.

Wegner, who previously announced his resignation from the CDU leadership candidacy, called for a common consensus after the upcoming elections on September 20. He urged the next parliament to focus on restoring trust in the democratic center and to engage voters who are currently gravitating toward radical political fringes on both the left and the right.
