Germany leaders address Israel anniversary and rising antisemitism

On the third anniversary of the Hamas attacks on Israel, German political and religious leaders have issued strong statements regarding the ongoing conflict and the rise of antisemitism in Germany.

Chancellor Friedrich Merz reaffirmed Germany's unwavering support for Israel's existence while simultaneously advocating for a two-state solution, stating that a Palestinian state alongside Israel is the most realistic path to regional peace. He also pledged that the government would fight antisemitism in all its forms.

In Berlin, religious leaders—including prominent rabbis and bishops—have called for the fight against antisemitism to be formally integrated into the state constitution to ensure institutional protection. Meanwhile, CSU General Secretary Martin Huber criticized the Berlin Left Party for its stance on Israel and warned that hatred against Jewish people is increasingly visible on German streets.

Security concerns remain high, with reports indicating that antisemitic incidents in Germany reached 8,725 in 2025. Religious and political figures emphasized that protecting Jewish life is a fundamental responsibility of the state.
