Berlin mosque election forum escalates amid debates on Muslim voter influence

A political election forum hosted by the 'Rat Berliner Imame' at the Neuköllner Begegnungsstätte mosque in Berlin escalated during the campaign for the Berlin House of Representatives. The incident occurred when FDP lead candidate Christoph Meyer displayed a photograph of Imam Mohamed Taha Sabri, leading the moderator, Muslim activist Iman Andrea Reimann, to interrupt his speech.

In discussions regarding the upcoming election, Imam Scharjil Khalid highlighted the political significance of Berlin's Muslim population, estimated at approximately 400,000 people. Khalid noted that Muslims represent a young demographic and are a vital part of the country's future. He suggested that political parties often underestimate this voter group, noting that even the AfD receives a portion of Muslim votes.

According to an INSA survey presented by the community, political leanings among Muslim voters in Berlin show the SPD leading with 26 percent, followed by Die Linke at 23 percent and the CDU at 22 percent. The AfD follows with 11 percent, the Greens with 8 percent, and BSW with 7 percent.
