Berlin museum opens Genghis Khan exhibition

The James-Simon-Galerie in Berlin has opened a special exhibition titled ‘Genghis Khan and the World of the Mongols’ to commemorate the 800th anniversary of the Mongol ruler's death. The exhibition, which runs until April 18, 2027, explores the history of the Mongol Empire through significant archaeological finds from Mongolia and Europe.

Visitors can view artifacts such as a Mongolian lamellar armor, a stone statue of a dignitary, and crystal belt fittings. The display traces the life of Temüjin, who rose from poverty to establish the largest contiguous land empire in history, spanning from the mouth of the Danube to the Korean Peninsula.

The exhibition highlights the dual nature of Genghis Khan's legacy, examining both his military conquests and his political innovations, including the establishment of a writing system, legal unification, and religious freedom during the period known as the Pax Mongolica.
