Berlin police raid AfD staffer's home

Police conducted a raid on the residence of an Alternative for Germany (AfD) staff member in Berlin-Lichterfelde. The search, which was originally authorized based on suspicions of illegal weapons possession, yielded no firearms.

Instead, investigators discovered drugs and materials related to National Socialism (NS). The individual, identified as Jürgen Sch., serves as a personal staffer for AfD candidate Kristin Brinker in the Reinickendorf constituency. Brinker expressed surprise regarding the findings, stating she had seen no prior indications of such interests.

The Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office is currently conducting forensic examinations of the seized items to determine if criminal charges are warranted under laws regarding the use of symbols of unconstitutional organizations. Acquiring such items is not automatically criminal if held for private purposes, but legality depends on intent and whether the items are used for distribution or public display.
