Berlin Marathon preparations trigger major road closures

Preparations are underway for the 52nd BMW Berlin Marathon, scheduled for September 26 and 27, 2026. As one of the world's largest running events, organizers expect more than 56,000 participants and hundreds of thousands of spectators.

Significant road closures have already begun in Berlin to facilitate route setup. The Straße des 17. Juni, which serves as the start and finish area near the Brandenburg Gate, is currently closed and will remain partially restricted until October 1. The marathon route spans various districts, including Moabit, Friedrichshain, Neukölln, and Schöneberg.

The Berlin Police are planning a large-scale operation to manage the event, noting that over 800 officers were deployed during the previous year. Additionally, a knife and weapon ban has been implemented for specific sections of the marathon route to ensure public safety.
