Berlin Pride attack kills Polish woman, injures dozens
On the evening of 25 July 2026, a 21‑year‑old German citizen of Lebanese descent, Abdul Ballout, drove a white van into the crowd gathering for the Christopher Street Day (CSD) Pride parade near the Brandenburg Gate and Tiergarten park in Berlin. After the vehicle impact he attacked people with a knife, killing a Polish woman and injuring about 29 others, several seriously.
German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt classified the incident as an Islamist terrorist act. The Federal Prosecutor’s Office in Karlsruhe assumed responsibility for the investigation. The following day police located Ballout in the Spandau district; during a confrontation he brandished a knife and was shot dead by officers.
The attack prompted statements from Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner and Chancellor Friedrich Merz, calling for a thorough inquiry and societal solidarity.
