Berlin Pride attack kills one, injures dozens in Islamist terror

On Saturday evening a 21‑year‑old Lebanese man drove a small van into the crowd at Berlin’s Christopher Street Day (CSD) parade, killing a woman and wounding 29 others, many seriously. He also used a knife before fleeing. Police later shot him dead in the Spandau district after he attacked officers.

German officials identified the motive as Islamist. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said there were clear signs of an Islamist motive, Chancellor Friedrich Merz called the act an attack on freedom and democracy, and Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner said it targeted the open society.

The attack sparked worldwide images and vigils, including a candlelight gathering at the Brandenburg Gate. Swedish commentator Mona Walter used the incident to criticize European politicians and media for failing to confront Islamist ideology, while some European LGBT activists warned that left‑wing alliances with Islam threaten gay rights and safety.
