Berlin Pride vehicle attack kills one, injures dozens FAST-MOVING
A white van drove into the crowd at Berlin’s Christopher Street Day (CSD) Pride parade on the night of 25‑26 July 2026 in the Tiergarten park, around 22:00 local time. The attack killed one woman and injured roughly 29 people, some severely. The suspect was identified as 21‑year‑old Abdul Ballout, a German citizen of Lebanese descent, who was known to security services, had a prior conviction for preparing a terrorist offence and was under a deradicalisation programme.
German police launched a massive manhunt involving about 2,200 officers, helicopters and thermal‑imaging cameras. Ballout fled the scene, later confronted police in a garden in Spandau, attacked officers with a bladed weapon and was shot and killed. Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt classified the incident as an Islamist‑motivated terrorist attack. Chancellor Friedrich Merz, Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner and other officials condemned the attack and announced heightened security measures for future public events.
