Berlin prosecutors delayed criminal notifications due to envelope shortage
The Berlin Public Prosecutor's Office has faced a multi-week delay in notifying convicted criminals of their required prison appearance due to a shortage of specialized yellow envelopes. These specific envelopes are required for official legal service, including court summons and prison entry notifications.
Without these envelopes, the legal delivery process cannot be completed correctly, as the delivery person must fill out a two-sided certificate for the enforcement files. This shortage resulted in several convicted individuals remaining free longer than intended, while prison spaces remained unused. A spokesperson for the General Prosecutor's Office confirmed a “short-term supply bottleneck” in the department responsible for criminal enforcement.
